State Science Competition

Eighth Grader Logan Dodd wins Illinois State Science Competition with Green Glue.
On May 8th and 9th, 2009 students from all over Illinois traveled to Champaign to participate in the 2009 Illinois Junior Academy of Science competition.
The Science projects presented were all impressive and competition was stiff with hundreds of other students competing. In the end, 8th Grader Logan Dodd from Waterloo Jr. High School was deemed Best in Category for the state.
"Logan's project was judged best consumer science in the state-that's a very significant 'win' in one of the biggest categories," said WJH teacher Debbie Clinebell, who accompanied the students to Champaign.
“My dad wanted a music room in the basement, but my mom didn't want it because of the noise. Then science fair came along and I decided to figure out which soundproofing would do the job best for my dad’s music room.” I took the top three soundproofing materials-Dynil, AcoutiBlok and Green Glue-and tested them on a wall I built in my basement. I did trials for frequencies between 20 hertz and 20 kilohertz," Dodd explained.
When asked if he was surprised at the results, Logan replied: “Yes I was not expecting Green Glue to have the greatest mean transmission loss for the frequencies being tested. I thought Acoustiblok would have a higher transmission loss,” adding “In my project Green Glue was the quickest and easiest material to install.”
