Resilient Sound Isolation Clips perform two main functions. First, because they are spaced in rows 24″ apart (generally), the drywall is attached with far fewer contact areas. Second, clips and hat track are resilient. They allow a wall to flex, and this increases sound isolation as well as lowering the troublesome primary low frequency resonance point.
There are three manufacturers of lab-tested clip systems in the US. The first is PAC International, the second is Kinetics Noise Control and the third is Saint-Gobain. All three companies manufacture excellent products. Consumers should be aware that most distributors have re-labeled these clips. You can easily identify them, however using the pictures below.

WHISPERCLIP
The WhisperClip is lab tested to be the highest performance resilient sound isolation clip available. Superior low frequency performance.

PAC RSIC-1
The PAC RSIC-1 is the original Resilient Sound Isolation Clip and has been around for years. UL fire rated, the RSIC-1 is designed for use with various framing applications.

PAC V-CLIP
The V-Clip is an economical means to achieve decoupling. UL fire rated, the V-Clip limits the connection points between the gypsum board and the structure in walls and ceilings.

IB-3 Clip
The IB-3 Clip is a very versatile product. The most common use is to decouple an isolated wall from the original framing. The IB-3 Clip can be used in new construction or remodel.
