Soundproof a wall: Basic (Level 1)

sw-greenglue-wall-solution-single-banner

Adding Green Glue and drywall directly to the existing drywall is common, however not as high performance as a decoupled Soundproof Clip Wall. Install on walls that have 24" O.C. framing. Green Glue is recommended over MLV, Resilient Channel, Soundboard, etc...

The Single Stud Wall with Green Glue

This wall is the least preferred, as it offers no decoupling - both sheets of drywall share the same stud. With the more common 16” OC framing, this wall is only effective at dropping mid and upper frequencies. This is not a solution when Low-Frequency bass is an issue.

NOT SUGGESTED FOR 16" ON CENTER FRAMING

This wall will perform better with 24” OC studs, and / or 25 gauge steel studs.

While this high STC wall variant looks great on paper, it has drawbacks. The wide, 24” spacing of a very flexible 25-gauge steel makes for a very “soft” wall that is more easily dented and deformed.
